UNC Lacrosse Goes Bald for Vs. Cancer

Last November, I joined my good friend Chase Jones and his Vs. Cancer Foundation to watch the North Carolina men’s lacrosse team shave their heads. It was a pretty incredible day. The team came together after a friend was diagnosed with cancer to raise funding and awareness of childhood cancer. Sound familiar?

Since today is the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service, I thought it was the perfect time to highlight the incredible efforts of this group of young people.

Those are quite long locks to be cutting off. Several of the lacrosse players had been growing out their hair for a while. Not wanting those locks to go to waste, the guys pushed their Vs. Cancer event hard. In the end, the team raised more than $24,000! That makes shaving all that hair off pretty easy to do.

Even a few of the ladies had their heads shaved. Go girls!

A big thank you to the UNC men’s lacrosse team for this incredible event! It is always great to see young people getting involved and doing big things to change the lives of others. Each Vs. Cancer event I cover, I become more inspired and more hopeful that the days of children dieing from cancer are numbered. Who knows, maybe at some point, I’ll be in that chair too.
