Last month, I had the honor to photograph Better Homes and Gardens: Go Realty’s Go Swing charity event. The golf and silent auction event was in support of Rebuilding Together, an organization that helps deserving individuals and families in low income neighborhoods make the building repairs needed to stay in their homes. For many, this means repairing roofs, replacing plumbing so that sinks and toilets work, and making a home safe to live in. The request for support from Rebuilding Together is so great, that many wait years before their homes are able to be repaired.
Go Swing raised more than $10,000 for Rebuilding Together to help a gentleman named Mr. Thomas. Mr. Thomas has been waiting since 2009 for assistance. To hear his story and see the conditions he has been living in is heart wrenching. Next week, volunteers from Go Realty will join Rebuilding Together to use the funds raised to make the much needed repairs Mr. Thomas’s home. It will be a life changing few days for Mr. Thomas, and it all started a few weeks ago at N.C. State’s Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not cooperate for Go Swing. After several hours of downpours, the golf outing portion of the event was called off. But that didn’t stop our golfers! Many found themselves in the simulation room competing for different prizes including ugliest swing (I totally should have signed up for that one. I was a sure win!)
The day wrapped up with a fabulous cocktail/silent auction event. There was lots of great food, wine and conversation.
By the end of the night, over $10,000 was raised to help Rebuilding Together. Several lucky bidders and raffle winners went home with awesome prizes. I may have been a little jealous of a few of them.
